Course Description and General Information:
This module is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide and coordinate first aid in the workplace in compliance with the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Applications) Regulations 2007 and the associated guide to these regulations.
On completion of this course learners will be able to:
- Understand the responsibilities of the occupational first aider.
- Be able to provide treatment for the purpose of preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until discharge or the arrival of medical assistance.
- Be able to provide treatment in the workplace for an injury which does not require the attention of a medical practitioner or nurse.
- Be capable of coordinating first aid arrangements in the workplace.
- Be familiar with health and safety legislation on first aid provision in the workplace.

- Cardiac First Response
- Wounds and Bleeding
- Altered levels of consciousness
- Musculoskeletal Injuries
- Burns and Scalds, Chemicals and Electric Shock
Learners are required to complete the following assessment below in order to achieve the required standard:
- Skills Demonstration (2) - 70%
- Basic Life Saving Skills - 40%
- Other Occupational First Aid Skills - 30%
- Examination-Theory - 30%
